Benefits of Dog Obedience Training

Dogs are exceptionally smart, but they still need training and support to understand how to behave in different social situations. Dog obedience training in Fredericksburg, VA can help them to respond to commands, to stop barking excessively, or to stop jumping on strangers. It can also be rewarding for both you and your pup. Here are a few benefits to keep in mind:

  • It strengthens dog-owner relationships  Trust is a key ingredient for dog-owner relationships. Your dog wants to know what’s expected of them, while you don’t want to feel anxious about how they’re going to react. Training can help create clear expectations, fostering more trust.

  • It improves communication – Dogs and humans thrive with good communication, and training encourages that as well. The training process can also help you better understand your dog’s behaviors and how they’re communicating with you non-verbally.

  • It can reduce stress for everyone – If your dog barks at everything, or if they’re constantly agitated on walks and when visitors are around, it can increase stress levels for everyone. Building good obedience skills can help to make these situations easier for your pet and for you, too.

  • It can offer great mental stimulation – Dogs don’t just need physical activity. They also need mental stimulation as well. Obedience training can be an excellent way to keep their brains busy! Following commands at home can be mentally rewarding, too.

  • It’s crucial for safety – You need your dog to listen to you, even when they’re distracted, overwhelmed, or stressed. If they’ve slipped off the leash, you want them to return right away. If cars are racing past, you want to keep them close. Training is invaluable for reinforcing those safe practices.

One-on-One Training with Silverbrook Kennels

At Silverbrook Kennels, we welcome dogs to our sprawling 10-acre property for dedicated obedience training classes. Your pup will stay with us for the duration of the three-week program, receiving tons of care and attention during that time. With one-on-one training, we focus on fostering good behaviors and obedience skills. We also teach essential commands like come, sit, and heel.

Our dog trainers know that pet owners are an important part of the process, too. We get in touch with you before the program begins, so we can learn more about you and your dog. Our team will also set up a consultation visit with you during the second week of training. Plus, we’ll work with you towards the end of the program, helping you build your own personal language to communicate with your pup.

Even better, when your dog has completed obedience training, they’ll have priority access to our boarding and daycare programs. We love seeing pets flourish with the support they need!
