Silverbrook Kennels accepts dogs five months of age or older for obedience training. Obedience training is a 5 week course and is taught individually. An evaluation is conducted on each dog during the first two weeks of training, after the initial two week evaluation, a consultation and visit is arranged to discuss training progress. Owners are encouraged to begin training lessons with their dogs at this time. We believe this to be the most important step in working towards a totally obedient and well trained dog. In addition, we concentrate strongly on good handling skills and positive dog/handler relations. Heel, sit, come and down are basic commands your dog will master in this short time. At the completion of the 5 week course, your dog will be heeling on and off leash, coming on command off leash, and understanding basic discipline such as no jumping on you or your neighbors. The training sessions will cover how to command the same discipline from your dog after arriving home. You and your dog are taught so well that if you follow training guidelines learned in your weekly sessions, you should never need to follow up with reinforcement training at a later date. Dogs belonging to individuals with special needs may have a program tailored to accomplish their objectives.

It is a requirement that all dogs are on a heartworm preventative and have current heartworm check. Prior to dropping dogs off, we request a current health certification from your veterinarian. This certificate must include Rabies, Parvo-Distemper combination shot and Bordatella (kennel cough). A copy of this health evaluation must accompany all dogs.
