GMHRCH Southland Repeat Performance

Petey was a tall, very muscular and athletic 85 pound black Labrador retriever. His Father, the legendary NAFC/FC Trumarc's Zip Code, and his Mother, the First Lady of NAHRA, GMHR Trieven Thunder Annie.

No matter how hot or cold, land or water, he was literally a retrieving machine and a pure athlete. Petey's marking abilities were fantastic! He very rarely required handling on marks. In fact, Petey truly felt he was capable of completing the test without his handler. He proved that for over 10 years. In July of 1990, Petey attained his Master Hunting Retriever title at 27 months old. At 29 months of age he qualified for the 1991 NAHRA National Invitational Field Test held at LaCrosse, WI. In the fall of 1991, at the age of three, he accumulated enough lifetime points to earn him the title of Grand Master Hunting Retriever. From that point, Petey qualified for every NAHRA Invitational through the year 1999. The points awarded Petey at the 1997 RAW Invitational enabled him to become Silverbrook Kennels third "1000 Lifetime Points" competitor.

I completed this biography two weeks ago and was just ready to e-mail this story to the NAHRA news with such different wording. Before sending this, Petey gave me the best Christmas gift an owner could ever receive. A day at the river swimming, that night opening presents on Christmas Eve, and then passing away so peacefully in his sleep.

This is the final chapter in the book which features a dog, who, for three decades, thrilled the country with his hard driving, heard headed style which will be tough to duplicate. There will never be another like “My Boy”. Life as his master… what a ride!
