Silverbrook's Ocean Annie

For those of you that did not already know, my lab Annie has been
fighting cancer for the last 6 months. Our battle came to a close today when she finally let me know it was time. Annie was 8 years old.

Her first few years were spent in and out of "doggie college" where she went on to become an intermediate level field trial hunting retriever. After racking up 10 ribbons (Thanks Trish and Lori!) she
retired from the field trial circuit to become a professional house pet
and the best hunting friend an owner could ever ask for. Her hunting
exploits have taken us from South Dakota chasing pheasants to the shores of the Carolina's watching me miss every shot I took. Good thing my friends are better shots than I am.

Annie became a mother at 5 years of age with 8 wonderful puppies.
Cassel's puppy "General" was a pick of the litter female and has become a mother herself. Annie has 4 grand puppies that I know of.

I would like to take a moment to thank Bert and Melissa for watching
Annie during the week while I was traveling for the last two years and
making her a part of their home. I would also like to thank my parents who had the particularly hard task of watching her decline over her for the last few months. These last months have been tough, but it came to a peaceful end.

To everyone not mentioned by name, I am sure Annie would have liked to thank you for the visits, the doggie sittings and opportunities to
explore the outdoors.

As I write this, I remember that Cassel is breeding General again this
spring and is most likely already expecting. While it may be too soon
for me, it serves as a great reminder that Annie's legacy will live on
through future generations of wonderful dogs.

God bless you all.
